Hawks U9s win Hyndburn Indoor Competition

Yesterday our Hawks Under 9s followed up on previous success by our U13s and U15s by winning their version of the Hyndburn Indoor Cricket Tournament.
In the semi-final, Allan Armer’s side took on Baxenden, scoring 260-1 (255) thanks to 18 from William Armer and 13 from Thomas Henderson, before restricting Baxenden to 237-3 (222), with Scott Duckworth (1-2) and William Armer (1-3) the pick of the bowlers.
In the final, we took on Rishton. Bowling first, we restricted them to 221-2 (211) with Max Cocken taking 2-2.  Careful batting meant we closed on 232-1 (227), taking the title with a 16 run victory.
Congratulations to all involved. Our team comprised William Armer, Max Cocken, Joshua Duckworth, Scott Duckworth, Thomas Henderson and Jonathan Wilson.
Victory means we have won three of the four age range versions of this competition in 2018, a very positive start to the year. Attention now turns to the season itself, as we look to follow up on a successful 2017 in the Lancashire Junior Cricket League.

Senior Cricket Awards

Despite a relatively disappointing season on the field, there was still much to celebrate from a Senior cricket perspective. Our first season in the Lancashire League was always going to be a challenge, but performances at times were impressive, and the impact made by some of the younger players shows the development work we have been putting in place is beginning to bear fruit. Along with the continued support and hard work of gifted senior players, this can only bode well for the future.

Hawks Junior Cricket Update – July 2017

This weekend, whilst we look forward to the rare occurrence of all three senior teams facing the same opposition counterparts in Nelson, attention also turns to our Hawks Under 11s, who face a cup semi final away at Burnley on Saturday morning.
Having already beaten strong sides in Haslingden and Clitheroe en route to the semi final, Paul Newton’s side go into the game hopeful of further success. Victory would bring the final to the Cliffe.
Indeed our Under 11s side are as yet unbeaten since joining the Lancashire Youth Cricket League. Wednesday’s League victory against Enfield represented a sixth straight league win, and eight in total with the aforementioned cup wins.
2017 has so far been extremely promising for our Hawks sides in general, with only the Under 9s having been beaten as yet, in their first ever game together against East Lancs.
This makes it all the more pleasing to see them bounce back to beat East Lancs in the return fixture last weekend, cementing their position at the top of the table.
Remarkably, as you can see, all four Hawks sides that have been in action currently sit top of their respective tables, and hold a combined record of
Played 20 – Won 18 – Tied 1 – Lost 1
Whilst we are aware that we are taking part in the lower division in each section, having only joined the LYCL this season, this current record is beyond expectations, and indicative that we are doing things right at many levels. This is testament to the hard work put in over the last few years by the junior co-ordinator, team managers and coaches.
Much of the season yet to go, but progress reports don’t get much more positive. Long may it continue.

Hawks Junior Cricket Update

Most of our Hawks Junior Teams have now started their seasons, and so I felt it appropriate to provide a roundup detailing how we are progressing.

Our under 9s lost their first game at home against East Lancs, but have since bounced back with wins against Clitheroe and Lowerhouse.

The Under 11s have so far blown away all sides they have faced. Four straight victories have seen Paul Newton’s side beat Enfield and both Haslingden sides, before a convincing win against Clitheroe last night, scoring 306 before restricting them to 173.

Our under 13s have won their three league games so far, beating Burnley, Church and Ramsbottom, but were soundly beaten in the cup by Lowerhouse.

A later start to the season than other sides for our Under 15s, but they remain unbeaten after two games. Victory over Lowerhouse last Wednesday was followed up with a tied game at Clitheroe, both teams scoring 112.

The Under 18s haven’t yet started. We took the decision to enter the Birchall Cup and this gets underway in early July.

So a very positive start. Overall as a Junior section we have 10 wins from 13 games and only two losses.

There will be weekly progress updates posted on this site, keeping  you informed on each of our teams. We will also look to include league tables with these updates should these become available.
