Hawks Shine in District Team Victory

Yesterday (Monday 20th May 2019) five of our Hawks Under 11s formed part of the Hyndburn District side that took on Wyre District at Rishton Cricket Club.

Our representatives were: William Armer, Jacob Houldsworth, Aniq Hussain, Sam Newton and William Thomson.

Hyndburn batted first and scored 197-5 from our allotted 35 overs.

William Thomson top scored with an impressive 76* including eleven 4s, and Aniq also contributed significantly with 31*. Together, and with a decent helping of extras, they put on an unbroken 140 for the 6th wicket, having come together with the side in trouble at 57-5.

In response, Wyre could only score 98-9. Sam (7-2-9-2), Jacob (4-0-8-2) and William Armer (6-2-5-1) all making important contributions, before Rishton’s Evan Dobson took a hat-trick with the last three balls of the game.

A great win. We’ll look to keep you updated on further progress.

Senior Cricket Awards

Despite a relatively disappointing season on the field, there was still much to celebrate from a Senior cricket perspective. Our first season in the Lancashire League was always going to be a challenge, but performances at times were impressive, and the impact made by some of the younger players shows the development work we have been putting in place is beginning to bear fruit. Along with the continued support and hard work of gifted senior players, this can only bode well for the future.

Hawks U11s Champions

Our Hawks Under 11s are champions of the Lancashire Junior Cricket League Under 11 Cup.
On Saturday morning, we took on Rishton in the final at The Cliffe. Batting first, we scored 282 before restricting Rishton to just 217 to claim victory.
The Hawks U11s beat Haslingden, Clitheroe and Burnley on their way to the final. The victory against Burnley was particularly pleasing given they are unbeaten in the top division this year with 8 wins out of 8. We are in Division 3, as newcomers to the Lancashire League, but also currently hold a 100% record.
Well done to all our players and manager Paul Newton, who now look to push towards a league and cup double.

Hawks U11s Reach Cup Final

We are delighted to report that our Hawks Under 11s side have reached the cup final, progressing having beaten Burnley CC in a tight game on Saturday morning.
Having set a total of 266, Paul Newton’s side restricted Burnley to 260, with reports from those present indicating the result could have gone either way right to the very end.
Well done to all involved.
So on to the final, where we face the victors of the other semi-final between Todmorden and Rishton.
The game will take place at the Cliffe on a date yet to be confirmed. We’ll let you know as soon as we have any further details.

Hawks Junior Cricket Update – July 2017

This weekend, whilst we look forward to the rare occurrence of all three senior teams facing the same opposition counterparts in Nelson, attention also turns to our Hawks Under 11s, who face a cup semi final away at Burnley on Saturday morning.
Having already beaten strong sides in Haslingden and Clitheroe en route to the semi final, Paul Newton’s side go into the game hopeful of further success. Victory would bring the final to the Cliffe.
Indeed our Under 11s side are as yet unbeaten since joining the Lancashire Youth Cricket League. Wednesday’s League victory against Enfield represented a sixth straight league win, and eight in total with the aforementioned cup wins.
2017 has so far been extremely promising for our Hawks sides in general, with only the Under 9s having been beaten as yet, in their first ever game together against East Lancs.
This makes it all the more pleasing to see them bounce back to beat East Lancs in the return fixture last weekend, cementing their position at the top of the table.
Remarkably, as you can see, all four Hawks sides that have been in action currently sit top of their respective tables, and hold a combined record of
Played 20 – Won 18 – Tied 1 – Lost 1
Whilst we are aware that we are taking part in the lower division in each section, having only joined the LYCL this season, this current record is beyond expectations, and indicative that we are doing things right at many levels. This is testament to the hard work put in over the last few years by the junior co-ordinator, team managers and coaches.
Much of the season yet to go, but progress reports don’t get much more positive. Long may it continue.
