It was almost a new look starting X1 for GHCC 2nds from the team that had had the emphatic victory over Rishton the week before, with 5 changes, but the result remained very much the same with a crushing defeat over Lowerhouse.
Lowerhouse were put in to bat on a wicket that looked as good as any in the league, courtesy of the Holt brothers, but in truth never really got going. A display of pace and precision from Newton at one end allowed Tanni to pick off the batters at the other, as the wickets fell quicker than Whiteheads wine prices (remember 10% off if you’re a GHCC member – that OK Tanni😉)
It was the turn of the left handers to get in on the act with Shovey and Ethyl taking over the bowling and taking 5 wickets between them (3 and 2 respectively). Highlight of the spell was Shovey picking off the smallest player on the pitch with his first ball. He bravely got back to his feet, with Shovey then deciding to come off his short run, and subsequently ending up being tatered around the ground by said batter – sometimes you just can’t win. Also worthy of a mention was the catch of the returning Leg-end, the Very Reverend Dobson – a one handed effort for which we’ll never hear the end of.
Despite a last stand of 25 Lowerhouse were only able to manage 87, which was always going to be a tough target to defend.
Rhys and Shak opened the batting and didn’t look in any mood to use the overs up. A few lusty blows from Shak saw him get to 28 before getting out and being replaced by the Reverend. More big hitting followed from both batters and the target was achieved in just under 13 overs, all done and in the bar by 4.30pm – good do!
Same again next week please lads..
