This week GHCC 2’s went on a magical mystery tour to the wonderful world of Bacup.
Stand in captain Stephen Schofield won the toss and chose to bat first.
Big Shaq and Ben “dropsy” Rogers opened and were both back in the shed with the score 14-2. The man mountain Niall Holt and the somewhat smaller Ethan Houldsworth took to the crease next. After a few edges and dropped catches for Ethan and with his lovely perm concealed under his helmet he plays a big cover drive over the fielder for 4. Looking good, until he offers a big edge behind to first slip. 38-3.
In next is a very thin and angry looking Russ Whalley…. oh wait sorry it’s Paul Whalley. Easy mistake to make. Unfortunately Russ or Paul or whatever his name is was soon walking back after making 4. Next was young Seb Whalley who has just won the worlds cutest cricketer award. Well done for that Seb. Now get batting.
Big bad Niall soon reaches his 50. Well batted groundsman!! Next to walk back was Seb for 17 then soon again Leach made his way back for 8. Niall Holt was still in the middle on 78 when he was joined by Joel Houldsworth, unfortunately Niall’s luck was now over, he made the walk back after making a brilliantly made 78.
Dave Kendall struts out!! Before slinking back (quack quack). Skipper Ste is next to the middle and Joel Houldsworth is next to return.
Here comes Tanny!! I am so excited I can barely breathe!!! Come on Tanny!!!!!!
Facing a bean pole with arms he is set… takes a body blow off the first ball. Now we are in new waters. Tanny might have to face a second ball. But it’s the end of he over. Ste gives him strike off the first ball. Tanny survives another!! Unbelievable scenes. He hits one in the air to a fielder…. for a run!!!! He is off the mark for the season. Tanny is back on!!! He gets another run…. who is this man? He has moved on to 4 now, the game has to be stopped for a minute because Tanny has a nose bleed, unsure why.
Sadly all good things must come to an end as Tanny is snaffled behind by the slips. GHCC post a score of 174. Time to bowl them out.
Bowl them out sounds so simple. Not today!
Kendal and Tanny opened the bowling but due to some fortuitous edges and false shots, both were taken off with the score ticking on.
Captain Schoefield and Joel Houldsworth were the changes and both had some success, Skipper taking the first wicket LBW and Houldsworth taking two. The required total was getting smaller though. The game was becoming more hostile from both sides.
The next change was Leach into the action. Three wickets to Leach and a run out by the ever so cute Seb Whalley were pretty much all Harwood had to offer with Bacup knocking off the score.
Unlucky lads, well done to Bacup and on to the next one
