This weekend GHCC 2’s entertained Norden at home. With captain Russ winning the toss and electing to bowl.
Openers Qazi and H. Masood bowled tight lines with little luck from the fielders. Masood eventually took the first wicket with a catch by Z. Ali.
Game on!
Qazi took the second wicket after a few unfortunate drops.
Z. Ali replaced Masood and quickly got to work, the fielders seemed to raise their game too with the next wicket being taken from an unbelievable diving catch by M. Leach off Ali’s bowling.
More soon followed as E. Houldsworth took a catch as did Shovelton. Zeain rounded off his wicket taking masterclass with another wicket clean bowled. Four wickets to Ali.
Meanwhile Shovelton came on to replace Qazi and took two wickets himself thanks to catches from M. Leach and H. Masood.
Leach replaced Ali and struck in his second over with an undeniable LBW then rounded off with a caught and bowled. 3 catches for the handsome young Leach.
Norden were all out for 124.
Opening the batting for GHCC was the man mountain Shaq and the vastly experienced Mas. Shaq didn’t last too long unfortunately and was fired for 2 LBW. Masood joined Mas.
Mas and Masood took the score to 35 before Mas mistimed a cut shot and played it to gully. Young Noodles Houldsworth ambled his way to the middle, before long Masood was trudging back after playing half a shot and giving the cover fielder some catching practice.
Time for captain Russ Whalley!! With big booming steps he made his way to the middle, feast or famine time!!!
With Russ smashing boundaries, Ethan decided he was a big hitter and took a big swipe and gifted one straight to mid on! The score at 77-4 with GHCC needing 48 to win. The big hitting Shovelton was next. The two veterans nearly saw us home, with the human firework Russ making 46 before being caught with the team needing two.
Z. Ali walks out to join Shovelton and hits a huge shot for 1 to give Shovey the strike with the scores tied. Shovey takes the win! Well played lads!!!
Just a final and charitable mention to Ammar Malik….who also played today.
On to the next one!
