Our Hawks under 15s took on Todmorden last night in the final of the Lancashire Junior League LKO Qualifier Tournament, and were crowned champions, chasing down the total with just one ball to spare.
Losing the toss, we were asked to field first in an 18 over game, and Todmorden set an impressive score of 129-2, Opener Bux retiring having reached 52. Aside from a runout by Jack Yates, the only other wicket to fall was taken by Harry Cousins, who had Kipping caught behind by Joseph Armer
In response, our opening pair brought back together Euan Rushton and Captain Ciaran Holden, fresh from their unbroken match winning 138 partnership for our 3rd XI A at Burnley on Saturday.
And they continued where they left off. Between them they put on 83 for the first wicket, before Ciaran fell for 33 in the 10th over. Euan made his way to 51 and retired. Bertie Donnelly added 10, but when he fell and then Joseph Armer was unfortunate to get a second ball duck, we found ourselves 106-3 and still needing 24 more with just 21 balls remaining. Enter Rayyan Hussain, ably supported by Ryder Fox-Noon (4). The pair added 19, including a four and a six in successive balls by Hussain, before Fox-Noon was out to the last ball of the penultimate over.
Joseph Cookson joined Hussain. Last over, 5 needed.
