Hawks Academy Match Report – U9 vs Lowerhouse (h) – 19 April 23

First game of the 2023 season for our U9’s as we welcomed Lowerhouse CC to Cliffe Lane.

A big day for the majority of the team as it was their first Lancashire League game, in fact it was also their first ever competitive game of cricket!

We bowled first and restricted Lowerhouse to a net score of 242. This was a great effort by the team, they looked like they had been playing for years! Congratulations to Jaxon who got his first ever wicket, well done!

In the field they all concentrated throughout which, considering the rather cold and windy conditions, was very impressive. Well done Edison for a great bit of fielding and a run out which launched the bails into the air, brilliant!

Thomas and Edison opened up our run chase, and like the three pairs that followed, batted superbly. Again, I have to say that considering the team’s inexperience they all conducted themselves like seasoned players. They were talking to each other between overs, communicating with each other with a lot of “No” and “Yes” and quietly getting on with amassing runs.

It came to the last over and we needed 7 runs off 4 balls. Despite going for it we just fell short, eventually scoring a net score of 235. Well done to all of you, you should all be very proud of yourselves! Oscar, great shot for 4 runs, it went a long way!!

Captain, Jack, Rudy, Jaxon, Thomas, Edison, Oscar and Sulaiman you kept the runs ticking over throughout the innings with a positive attitude, batting skills that bode really well for the future and the team’s cricketing journey with GHCC U9’s and more importantly, you did it all with a big smile on your face😎

Can I finally thank Rod and my long suffering wife for helping with scoring and of course our wonderful sponsors Olive Branch Fostering who have kindly agreed to sponsor us this season, the shirts look great by the way!
